How this crypto profit calculator works

Enter your position direction and entry/exit prices, then describe your position the way you actually think about it: by quantity, by notional value, or by the margin you are posting. The calculator derives the other two automatically, works out your gross PnL, subtracts trading fees on both sides, and shows the return on margin — the number that leverage makes feel very different from the price move itself.

Long vs short

A long profits when price rises: PnL = (exit − entry) × quantity. A short profits when price falls: PnL = (entry − exit) × quantity. The calculator handles both with one switch — and the math is symmetric, which is why shorts on the way down earn exactly what longs on the way up do.

Fees matter more than they look

A 0.05% taker fee per side is 0.1% of notional round-trip — $10 on a $10,000 position. At 50x leverage that is 5% of your margin. Always run the fee-adjusted number before judging a trade idea; then check where you get liquidated with the liquidation price calculator, and whether your size fits your risk with the position size calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How do you calculate crypto profit?

For a long: profit = (exit price − entry price) × quantity. For a short: profit = (entry price − exit price) × quantity. With leverage, ROI on margin divides that profit by your initial margin (position notional ÷ leverage). A 10x long from $100 to $110 earns $10 per coin — a 100% return on the $10 margin per coin, before fees.

What fees should I include in a crypto PnL calculation?

Both sides of the trade. Binance futures charges a 0.05% taker fee per side (0.02% maker), so round-trip taker fees cost about 0.1% of your notional. On a $10,000 position that is $10 — small, but on high-leverage trades with tight targets it can erase a meaningful slice of profit.

What is ROI on margin?

ROI on margin measures your profit against the margin you locked up, not the full position value. At 10x leverage you only post 10% of the notional, so a 10% price move in your favor is a 100% return on margin — and a 10% move against you is a 100% loss. Leverage multiplies both directions.

Do I pay tax on crypto profits?

In most countries, yes — the U.S. treats crypto gains as capital gains (with a separate question for ordinary income). Rules vary widely by country, so keep trade records and check your local rules. This calculator is a trading tool, not tax advice.
